i was reading about studio monitors a coupla weeks ago and they were saying that hifi speakers dont give you a true sound. same with headphones.
i discovered the headphone thing a while ago when i would record vocals and it would sound sweet through the phones but when i played it back through my acou gtar amp it sounded :|
i was just wondering .. is it a bad idea listening to a mix thru PA speakers?
thats what ive been doing.
so i have to choose between phones, an acoustic gtar amp or PA speakers.
whats the best option here?

thanx

Monitors are your best reference.
A stereo amp or headphones will color the sound and not give you a true definition of the sound. You should notice when you listen to a mix on other systems it will vary in the way it sounds. You can practice with it and find where you need to set the lows, mids and highs to get a better reference. Like setting all parameters center...this may help.

Yea put everything to a flat eq setting on your equipment. I don't mean in mixing, i mean like on amps and shit. And if you don't have proper monitoring speakers the best thing to do is cross reference your work between as many playback systems as possible.

Listen to it on phones, pa, car, home stereo, buddy's walkman. Whatever you can.

This is really time consuming, and as you burn 20 cds per mix and are constantly running around, you'll work harder to alot your funds towards monitors.
