Returned from the dead
If I'm only using two TRS outputs from my interface that are supposed to go straight to my monitors, how can I hook up a head phone amp without using a splitter at the beginning of my monitoring chain?
And if I were to use plain Y TRS splitters, wouldn't that degrade my signal somewhat?

you can try the Y-headphone/splitters and see if your signal is degraded.

I doubt you'll hear any degradation. The degradation might be more in the mathematic theory of degradation, but to your ears probably nothing.

keep the receipt when you buy the Y....

I've used splitters and never heard anything, the Y's don't cut the power output in half, if thats what your thinking.

I'm fortunate in that the firepod hosts two sets of outputs, so one goes to headphone amp, the other goes to monitors. However, the headphone amp also has a line out. With luck you might be able to use such a facility if your headphone amp has it, i.e. interface > headphone amp > monitors. This is what Washburn was referring to.

The chance, though, is that the headphone amp might introduce some noise into the signal path.
