OK, I'm thinking about getting a portable setup based around an HD24. I'm going to use my existing pres, and transfer to PC via ADAT for mixdown.

So I don't particularly need a mixer other than for monitoring. I was thinking something evil like a Behri line level mixer (RX1602) might do the trick (for 16 tracks, anyway, I am unlikely to need to monitor more). I've only ever owned one Behri product, the feedback destroyer, that literally broke within minutes. I figure if the mixer broke I could just patch two tracks direct to my headphone amp if I got desparate.

I'm not inclined to spend too much on something that doesn't enter the recorded signal path . . . any help?

The Behringer line mixer to a headphone amp or power amp and speakers would work in that scenario.

I had a feedback destroyer once too. It actually created feedback in my case. got rid of it quickly.

If you were looking to go high-end, I saw a Manley 16X2 line mixer at www.mercenary.com for just over $8K. You know... if when you sneeze hundred dollar bills come out. :o)

Yeah, they do, but then I wipe my butt with 'em, so I end up even ;)

I have to say my Feedback destroyer did that, it kept any audio from passing whatsoever!

Yeah I've been reconsidering the mixer approach. The A&H WZ122DX looks like a perfect fit - 8 pres, direct outs, 6 stereo inputs (12 track monitoring), 10u rack (which is what I need). Even some onboard effects to spice up the headphone mixes. Very tempting.

Anybody heard these pres?

I used my HD24 with a Mackie CR1604 fairly successfully before getting my A&H 24x8 studio console.
