Monitoring in headphones

Hi everyone, great forum.

I am new to recording, so please bear with me with the simple questions.. sorry. I have a delta 1011 (8 input'output etc) sound card. Everything was going ok until I thought I would get more professional!! I was using my stereo amp and speakers for monitoring. Which allowed me to switch the speakers off when doing voacal work. I have upgraded to a Samson Servo amp and near field monitors which is good but how do I plug my headphones now? And even if I buy a headphone amp how do I switch the speakers off when I do the vocals and listen on my headphones, as the amp doesn't have a switch. Sorry for being a bit dim, just learning the basics.

Hope someone can help.

I have no doubt I have a lot more questions in the future.

Thanks in anticipation

The Delta 1010 is awesome. I have one. Very useful.

As far as headphones, unless your monitors have a headphone in, you'll need to grab yourself a headphone amp. The one that comes to mind that has a mute switch for your monitors is the PreSonus HP4.

Thanks for that.. I'll check it out.. (and the cost.. ouch!)

You could of course use your original amp for only headphone.. switch the signal from your delta from one to the other, or split it.. ;)
