Hi, I was wondering how would I go about recording a guitar ,into mixer, into computer, with added fx,[delay, chorus, etc.]through the aux.... but NOT RECORD the fx, JUST MONITOR them, my friend says that I should just record the guitar with the fx and not worry about it, but I think it would be better to record the part dry,and then be able to play around with different dx-fx etc.
The reason I want to hear the effect is that it just makes it easier to play the part[ slight amount of delay on the lead,etc.]. so specifically, is this possible with the mackie 1402vlz?,I have a quadraverb patched into AUX.1. I've tried messing with the very obvious, but it doesnt seem to be working, any help or comments would be appreciated.

Shred,

What are you monitoring through??? headphones or speakers? I know ART makes a headphone preamp that you can add reverb, delay, chorus, etc, that only affects your headphone mix, and not what really goes to tape.

Yo Heat, thanx for the reply, I'm monitoring through headphones, I thought about using some sort of external headphone mixer, but it seemed that I should be able to do this with the mixer, and... I was right.
Someone advised that I patch the efx returns into one of the STEREO LINE INPUTS, hit the alt3-4 button for that channel, and just assign alt3-4 to the c-r source, and not the main mix... perfection.
Now I can record my stuff the way I hear & play it, and have a nice clean DRY recording to mangle and corrupt to perfection.
