I'm not sure what I should do here. I want to record additional track but don't know how to monitor a new track AND the previous track.

Right now I record bass guitar direct into a small board (Beh MX802) and monitor with cans from there. I listen to the previously recorded track (Cakewalk) through the speakers. It works but it's not good enough.

I record to my PC through an Aark 24 but the speakers run off a SB card. I know I must have some options at my disposal but I haven't been doing this for very long and I'm a little overwhelmed.

...couple of options....

- Cakewalk has input monitoring - not exactly sure how to turn it on (it's been a while since I used CW Pro Audio 9), but the option should be there. You might experience some latency using this method (slight delay before you hear what you're playing).

- Use your mixer for zero latency monitoring. Route the ouput from the soundcard in, and the output from your Aark in, mix to taste for tracking. The disadvantage here is that you'd need to use a separate preamp (bass->preamp->Aark) when recording mics or direct bass. Most folks here will tell you that using the Beh for a preamp is less than ideal anyway.

- I'm not familiar with your mixer, but you may be able to route the soundcard into it without assigning it to the output.
