So I'm in the process of whipping up some homemade monitor stands using this design posted here:

While at home depot buying parts for the stands, I picked up a sheet of styrofoam with the intention to put under the monitors, between the monitors and the wooden platforms they would be sitting on.
Now, I understand that styrofoam is poor material for the absorbtion of sound, however if I intend on "decoupling" the monitors from the stand (as in eliminating the sound that may travel down the speaker stand to the floor) is the styrofoam sheet at least aiding somewhat in improving the sound quality that these monitors will produce while sitting on these stands?
thanks,
Joe
EDIT: Keep in mind that I am following the design for these stands almost completely. I intend on filing the stands with sand, giving it more mass, which as I understand it will aid in stopping sound from reaching the floor as well. In the original posting of the design for these stands the guy uses a different material between the monitors and the stands.
