I'm trying to decide what kind of near-field monitoring setup to use...I've got an old pair of AMR PRM-Series reference monitors (passive) and I was thinking about buying an inexpensive amp to drive them...the amp would be sitting on a shelf 6 inches directly over the top of my computer monitor, and the speakers would be on the same shelf but 3 feet on either side of the amp, approximately 2 1/2 feet sideways and up from the computer monitor. Would I run into any shielding problems with this setup? If so, would buying a pair of shielded speakers running thru this same amp solve the problem? Or should I just go with active shielded monitors (I don't have too much left in the budget...)

Thanks in advance for your help !!!

Most likely you would NOT run into any shielding problems with that setup, however....if the shelf decides to go on strike or you want to change your setup then you may be in a pond without a hamster. (?!)
if your monitor starts looking like a picasso then you know you've got problems!

Thanks Take5....I think I'm gonna try and snag an Alesis Monitor One or M1, or maybe some Event 20/20's. I don't think I can go wrong with any of those...

Thanks for your reply
