Hey Guys!

My name is Zac and I'm new to the forum.

I was hopeing to get some questions answered about what your monitor settings and volume levels should be at when recording.

I am recording Hard-Rock & Heavy Metal Instrumentals

My current settings are -

Room Control - 0db
High Trim - 0db

As for the the levels -

I keep my monitor volume settings at low levels and use my interface to increase the volume of the monitors. Is this bad? Should I have my monitor volume setting levels higher and my interface volume low?

Any solid advice is appreciated!

Thank You!

Hi there,
These controls depend entirely on the model of monitors and the environment that they're in.
Have you read the manual? It should tell you about compensating for speakers placed in corners or close to walls, etc.

I keep my monitor volume settings at low levels and use my interface to increase the volume of the monitors. Is this bad? Should I have my monitor volume setting levels higher and my interface volume low?

Thank You!

I'm not 100% sure about this but I used to do the same as you.
I remember reading a while back that it might be better to keep the monitor gain at a healthy level and use the interface output control as an attenuator. I now keep my monitor gains high.

Maybe I can find that thread for you....

85dB is the level where your ears have the flattest frequency response.
