Im looking for a used set of near field monitors for my home studio.
I can buy a rig with 2 Event 20/20, power amp Carvin f300 and speaker stands.

Are the Event 20/20 good monitors for home studio purpose?

The 300 watt amp is overkill but if its a good value I can make it work.

What is the difference between a near field moniitor like the Event 2020 and just good quality passive home speakers?

Looks like 275 for the rig. that about right? Do you have some other suggestions?

thanks for any input!

I hate when people tell you to use the search function, but friend, you should use the search function. This HAS to be the absolute number one question asked on these boards, and its been discussed everyday for the last 4 years. (or however old this forum is). There's already three similiar threads on the front page of this forum alone.

You'll find hundreds of reviews of the 20/20s and the rest of the Event line, as well as the entry level M-audio, Yorkville, Yamahas, Tannoy, etc.

Search it. You'll be amazed.

And if you're interested, my recommendation is that you NOT get the 20/20s
