Anybody use 'em? Like 'em? Are they truly useful? And if so.... What are they constructed from, and can one (more cost effectively) make their own?

I just use mouse pads under my monitors. I got the idea from a mastering engineers thread on coupling and decoupling debate...workd good enough for me. I haven't tried the MoPads from Auralex, but I suspect...its not that much better?

I used some spare wedge acoustic foam tiles for this purpose. Don't know if it really works though, I havent had a chance to compare without them.

I got some MoPads for x-mas. They effectively slant my monitors towards my ears, cause they are sitting a bit above head level. As for actual isolation, they only decoupling that they will do that you want to worry about is with the lower frequencies. A 15 khz wave isn't going to resonate through your desk, but a 100hz wave just might. If you have monitors wiht a strong/healthy bass response, you might just want to get some. My nearfields arent very bass heavy (but my bigass room monitors, which are hanging from the cieling, are), so i cant tell you how well the mopads work for that.

I use two pairs of Mopads, they are awesome, eliminated the little rattling I had before in one of my monitors and very convenient to change the angles, also easy to slide the monitors in different directions. I wouldn't use any monitor speakers without it. You can use any substitute like hard foams instead of these, but I really love their look and convenience.

not like mopads are expensive either. 30 dollars will give you 4 pieces for use with two monitors... now all i need to do is find a site with int'l shipping... dammit.

:D CARVED MINE OUT OF LARGE CHUNKS OF STYROFOAM, ONE HUGE PIECE, TOTALLY AWSOME.
