Hey All,
I tried searching for an answer on the forums, but nothing really answered my question.

I just got a pair of Rokit RP5s. They are running out from an Edirol FA-101 firewire interface which is connected to the FW400 port on my Powerbook G4. Now, when they are on, both speakers emit a high pitched whine, and it also seems its picking up the hard drive (the are blips when the hard drive is accessed, etc.) I was just wondering if this is something caused by the cables or something else? (btw, i'm a newbie to all of this, so please bear with me). Thanks!

btw, the cables i'm using aren't anything special. They say "Proformance" on the side.

hey man,

I had the same problem with my wharfedales. The way to solve it is to either buy better sheilded cables. On my wish list are two planet waves xlr to trs, but i don't have the money yet.

Anyway the other way is to make sure you keep your cable runs as short as possible and to make sure that these cables don't go anywhere near power leads or power points. I have mine gaffa taped to my wall underneath my desk. he he. these steps solved my problem. Even with my crappy cables there is no hiss that is audible over any of the music i play through my speakers.

Good luck

Dave

I've noticed my monitors get interference from my mobile phone when it's about to receive a message/call. Just a thought but you haven't got any wireless stuff going on from your laptop as it might be an idea to deactivate it as a test, I'm totally pissing in the dark here.

Thanks for the replies! i'll probably be buying some nice cables soon (the wires have been exposed in the cables i have now...i'm no expert, but i'm sure that's not good for the sound). Plus, i also found out most of the noise is coming from my powerbook...turns out a lot of people have this problem. All i had to do was install the CHUD tools from apple's developer's website, then turn off the "nap" feature. Not sure what it does, but it worked!
