Hello all! First, i have to admit you all provide great entertainment between 1 and 4am. I love it! My EVENTS, my YAMAHAS, my TANNOYS, etc.,etc! Oh, the sweet feel of good ol' competition! Ok, it's probably not that funny in the daytime. I'm over it now. To my question . . . I read all the monitor threads I could find and I've made my . . .gulp decision (anonymously however!) Thanks for the insight!
Since I'm a nnnnnnervous nnnnnnewbie, I like to take the time to research the research of my elders and peers. I've made my share of costly mistakes and it won't happen again! oh yeah, to my question- I have a (sorry if this is a cussword to some!)-- ppppeavey stereo power amp 4-C 200 watt a channel at uhmm, 4ohms I believe. It's like a 96 model I think. I know this is made for live sound (via built in cooling fan), so. . . what happens if I turn the volume on the amp to say 2 or 3 and place it (10-15 ft or so) away from my desk? (with intentions of shutting up the fan a bit) Are my monitors safe from the evil Peavey, or will it color the sound? I guess what I'm asking is will it work for now until I get the chance to do some dealing for a monitor amp?

Thanks everyone!

For your early morning entertainment...

Will it color the sound?
Of course. But if you have decent monitors I think it can still be a workable combination for mixdown. Don't feel all down in the mouth about the Peavey. I've heard them in live rigs and, while I wouldn't go that route if were to buy a power amp, I'm still using the power amp in my Sony consumer receiver. And it's only 65 watts a side! I spent more money on Event 20/20 passives than the receiver.
Actually 3 times more.

The consumer stereo route is definately a viable and cost effective way to go. I been trying like heck to get either my Sansui or Yamaha to sound right with my 20/20's but they have both seen better days. Currently auditioning a kit amp with the brand peterson/klaus on it. 70 watts per and a real clean go getter. The only thing I don't like about it is there is no attenuation on it - so I have to patch a mixer into the loop. All in all the set up makes for a killer monitoring rig.
