Hey there,

I recently purchased a Tascam 688 through Ebay, and ordered a new manual from Tascam. Long story short, the 688 arrived today with the rear panel and heat sink smashed in courtesy of UPS, so I now have a spare 688 manual if anyone needs one.

Oh, and if anyone has a 688 for sale, I'm in the market.

Yo, Bob;
Sorry to hear about your problem, but I may have a solution. If your 688 was sent by UPS (pronounced "oops", for obvious reasons), then they should pay for it - they insure their deliveries, to the best of my knowledge. If I were you, I'd contact the nearest UPS office and ask how to file a claim. It is possible that will reimburse you for the cost of your machine. I wish you luck and hope that this has been of help to you.

I'll take that there manual off yer hands. I am expecting one to arrive (today hopefully) and the previous owner couldn't find the manual for it.
I sure hope they don't mess up MY 688! I'll be annnnnngry!

Hiya Chipper,

UPS is picking it up on Monday to inspect it, and then they're going to send it back to the guy I got it from. He did get it insured, but if UPS feels that it was packaged poorly, they can deny the claim. IMO, the packaging wasn't great, but this thing had to take a massive hit to cause this kind of damage. At any rate, the dispute is between the shipper and UPS - I get my money back regardless of what happens between them.

Personally, I've never had a problem shipping anything with UPS, but then I always pack my stuff under the assumption that somewhere along the line, it may cross paths with an underpaid and overstressed package handler.

Anyway....on the prowl once again.I think I may have found another one, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens :)

Man, I'm really sorry, but I have to keep this one after all. The unit I'm looking at now has - you guessed it - no manual. Tascam has a pile of them in stock, however. They charged me twenty buck plus postage, and I had it in three days. If you want, I can scan some of the "getting started" pages for you - in particular, the ones that deal with the signal routing through the mixer - you're gonna need it. I've got some free time this weekend, email me and let me know.
