Me again....I just tried to convert my soundcraft spirit studio's outs to +4dB from -10dB and now I get no output at all exept from the inserts where I have to plug the jack in half way. In the spirit manual it tells you to remove resistors R130 and R131, which I did and now...no bloody sound!!! Help!

You may have to replace the resistors with buss wire. I'm not saying to do that because I don't know the circuit-wiring scheme of the Spirit. You may want to double check the instructions to see if that path should be closed after resistor removal. A wire jumper across those soldier points may be necessary to complete the circuit.

Tapeboy,

I would suggest you recheck what you modified, although from what you said in your previous thread I think you should get the console professionally serviced.

I did this mod some months ago while I had my console stripped down but because I have both +4 and -10 recorders I added a switch to each channel and only removed one end of the resistors, the other end goes to the switches so now I only have to flick a switch on the necessary channels :) .

And no, there is no need to replace the resistors with a jumper.

ouch!

I removed the wrong resistors! The mixer is now back in action at +4dB on 16 channels. I haven't touched the last 8 as these would be ideal for my 8 track -10dB machine. I'd love to have switches on the last 8 channels like you have (-10dB to +4dB). Does it matter which resistor is going to the switch. I'm useless when it comes to electronics as you can already see....

I used minature 6 pole switches..........for want of a better way of explaining, each switch has a left and right signal path so I actually removed the two resistors from the boards, soldered one to each side of the switch, soldered extension wires to the common centre contacts on the switches and also to the free end of the resistors and the other end of the wires was soldered back where the resistors had been on the pcb. Also I covered any bare sections of wire, etc., with heat shrink tube.

Hi - if there's two resistors then use a DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch - I'm pretty sure this is what ausrock means by 'six pole' as they have six contacts.

Not sure where you're from so I don't know where to send you, but if you're in North America you can get them from RadioShack, or if you're from Australia/NZ then Dick Smith has them. Just go to your local electronics store and find one that will look ok and fit (remember to allow space for the wiring etc) - these are just suggestions without actually seeing your mixer.

And as ausrock said, cover everything, especially where you join wire onto the resistors, with heatshrink.

on the other hand

I just tried my tascam 38 with +4dB and it sounds fine, I just have to lower my levels on the mixing desk....
