Hey ! First of all, sorry if my english is not very good.

I am currently working on a modern (core/djent) metal project. The guys I'm working with want a super tight and sharp guitar sound a la Circle of contempt / Monuments. The guitarist that recorded the guitar tracks (DI/Preamp) is super tight but I know that I have to edit the tracks to achieve a "non-human" tight sound. My question is do you guys usually edit the guitar track before (DI track) or after the reamping process.

Thanks !

It's the only way, once it's reamped it turns into a sausage. Edit the DI then reamp.

Also: I literally hate that sound, but yeah it's achieved by cutting off a lot of the decay of the note.

It depends. if I don't want to reamp, I will group the Di and the distorted signal together and use the Di as my visual guide to edit the distorted track. But editing the Di and then reamping tends to sound better.
