I've been out of the loop as to the best stuff for audio and whatever. And who better to ask than you guys, my fellow forumites? :)

I have an Intel P4 3.0Ghz w/HT, socket 478, I believe. The board must be compatible with dual channel RAM...and I'd like it to have at least an 800 FSB. Also, it must work with my Delta 1010. Also has to play nice with my software (Sonar 5PE). Firewire, SATA, AGP, etc.

I can't believe my mobo died on me....I loved that thing. It worked so well. They discontinued it so I can't just get the same one again.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Sounds a bit like my setup. I run it all on an Asus p4p800E deluxe. It's the most stable computer I've had in 12 years. Never had a crash since I built it well over a year ago.

Abit IC7-Max3 (intel 875, the best chipset for socket 478)

Brilliant mb. 6 USB, TI Firewire, SATAx6, gig ethernet

I would never replace mine with anything else. Has never crashed, blu screened ANYTHING.

i have a fucking emachines thats almost 2 years old and its never crashed or blue screened. sometimes you just get lucky.

Meet the first crash because that's the board I had. IC7-Max3! :) :D
It's the one that's discontinued.

There is some essential reading here...

Chipsets to avoid

Evidently the latest nForce4 chipsets are problematic for DAWs.

The single cpu nForce3 @ socket 939 (AMD 64 cpu) and Intel 875 (Pentium IV cpu) chipsets are well-proven under different DAW workflows and match well with RMEs soundcards for pro audio usage.

I think I'm going with the Asus P4P800E Deluxe...ordering it today from New Egg.

I have built 3 different rigs using AMD's nForce4 (differs from the intel version big time) and have seen zero problems.

The nForce4 boards for intel CPUs used to have mosfet undercurrent, where under load from the room heaters... I mean, Prescotts, the CPU's operation would become unstable. I believe this has been remedied, but I have no firsthand experience with these boards in question.

The nForce4 boards aren't problematic, they are slower than nForce3 boards for DAW purposes.

RME did quantitative testing on nForce4 chipset boards to find this out. RME has first-hand knowledge.

Unfortunately, RME's findings are not the end-all-be-all results.
RME did their experiments on early editions of nForce4 silicon, and more importantly, on early versions of nForce4 Chipset/GART/PCI-E drivers.

I would think that a revisit to these nForce4 'problems' would be attributed to
immature driver releases, for both the bandwidth-hogging PCI-E graphics card issues RME mentions and the lack of improved performance.

It was simply too early a test to definitively say that the nForce4 is inferior to the nForce3, as far as DAWs are concerned.

Nice one, it's solid

Well, not to dis-credit what LemonTree suggested but...I ordered the ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe from Newegg.com and it came DOA. I did all the testing on the board that I could think of. I know my processor works because I took it to a shop and they tested it on another board. I know my RAM works because they also tested that. And, disconnecting everything from the new mobo gave NO error beeps or anything. It should have at least posted. I even tried it with a brand new PSU...nothing.

So...Newegg.com told me they wouldn't replace it and I had to contact the manufacturer for warranty (fine by me). I visit their site and their site says contact reseller. Circular pattern, huh? I called ASUS and they said all they do is warranty repair. I don't want repair! I want the new motherboard that I paid good money for! So I call Newegg.com up and tell them what ASUS said and they are going to refund my money minus the shipping charges.

So here I am...without mobo again. Any more suggestions? I'm thinking of saying screw it and buy a Dell and sell my current computer for parts.
