For a listening room, i would like to make Bass traps and side panels but would like to avoid mounting to any walls.
This will be a conversion of my living room.
It would be of benefit if the acoustic treatments could be on stands, hanging and on doors.
Simply put, will any or all types of treatments be reasonably effective when installed "Free Standing" ?
What types, if any, will work best?
The plan, with cash being a factor, is to use economical materials such as fiberglass or mineral board panels.
I am new to this portion of Audio, two days of search and study on line :) now i have a few "Stupid Questions".
Any and all input will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

My understanding is if they are in optimum places, just like if they were fixed, it should be just fine. I believe I have seen bass traps mounted on stands in pictures, researching this myself.

Also, it is my understanding, if they are out a tad from a wall, they will actually work better VS being right against the wall.

I see hanging one on the wall, (like a picture) as to permantly mounting as no different. Infact, I think that's what most people do. They even lean the bass traps against the wall with the ones on the floor and those aren't even mounted.

Just what i wanted to hear! :D
It seemed logical they would still work.
I will continue to research this forum and collect more info.
Thank you for your reply.

Exactly. Most of this guy's bass traps are on stands, and they work exactly the same as if they were permanently mounted on the walls.
