Check it out for yourselves...

My man (FabDaEclectic) sent 25 beats to a Mobb Deep representative in October of 2005 and never heard back from them... Then, they drop this single, and he recognizes the beat.

He has the beat registered through ASCAP but he didn't copywrite it. He's talking to his label's Entertainment Lawyer right now, to see if he has any recourse.

He's pissed... and I can't blame him. It's a blatant ripoff from his beat.

So... all you producers out there, copywrite your beats BEFORE you send them to labels. Be wise about your business.

sounds like ther redid the beat..

this is why I dont send whole beats to labels..you should send snippets 45 sec. to a minute long..

I hope they can get something out of this...majors are alway jackin up and coming artist and producers..

sorry to here the bad news..

Dam.. That same ish happened to my boy on Biggies first album, with da "warning" track.... He gave biggie a beat tape with that and couple others.. Biggie verbally agreed to two tracks but ended up only taking one (Things Done Changed 1st song on album)... Easy Mo Bee ending up producing Warning...

That is why I am really hesitant with doing tracks with well known samples...

I wis him luck tho...

that does suck for your boy if his story is true but does this dude have any proof that he made his beat before mobb deep put out that single? im not trying to offend you or him or anyone else but i mean i could easily remake a hotass beat on the radio and put it on the web saying that my version was made first. plus, no offense or anything but the mobb deep version is 100 times hotter. who produced (or says they produced) the one that mobb deep uses, do you know? was it havoc or was it dre?

like i said im not trying to piss anyone off i just find it hard to believe that either havor OR dre (maybe even scott storch?) would ever need to steal from someone to make a hot beat. just my 2 cents.

I know its hard for you to believe..but it happens all the time..its the same crap with samples...but ideas do get takin and re-done in hope that no one will mind..its a issue thats need to be cleared up..and if he can prove he made it..like if he keep sent the beat cd through certified mail..he has a dated signed and all that other jazz..but if not he better have a good lawyer on his side..cause we know dre team does..even tho that had to pay out billiong for ilegal sample use

This video here has Flex voice-overs... Though that doesn't mean he produced it.... I remember reading on the Neptunes board a long while back of the same type of story....

He has the original sequence, not sure if that will benefit him though. He also has e-mails with the Rep for Mobb Deep with MP3 snippets of all the tracks he sent them. That e-mail is dated October of 05, and can be traced via the mail server as proof of date.

The problem is, they recreated the beat. There are no samples, it's all one shots... When you recreate a beat, there's not much anyone can do. You still created it...

It's like, I can paint a picture of Van Gogh, and sell it if I want. It's my painting, and my work. Just because I used his original as a reference, doesn't make it illegal.

It's a loophole in the industry that needs to be addressed.

By the way, I know Scott Storch has bitten MANY producers. I know for a fact he bit "Forgot About Dre" from a producer in Philly who worked with my homie DJ Tap. Dre has been sued many times for this, and so have the Neptunes and kanye West. It happens all the time, fam.

BTW, quite a few people who don't know know my boy have said his beat was better than the way Mobb did it... So that's a matter of opinion.

the email might save his butt..but its up to his lawyers..ih he have the snippets in the email and it states he was talkin to a rep of the group or label..then they should have a case even if it isnt copywritten..but time will tell ..keep us informed..

this is a very good case,,,reminds me of the guy in OK that said lil jon and scrappy stole his concept for his song that he submitted to them...i will be watchin this one..

im out..

Yeah I listened to them both and it's no coincidence.......................It's definitely the same beat/concept and it's too ironic that it would drop the way it did!
Keep us posted!

That will happen over and over again. It's been going on since the beginning, and is going to continue right on til somebody upstairs turns the lights out on this little planet.....

Unfortunatly a lot of producers lose, even with a copyright, because they don't have the cheese to outlast the corporate lawyers of the big companies over long periods of time, and these battles do go on for years.

point well taken...maybe you should be his lawyer!

Dammmnnn. If he does decide to persue this legally against their lawyers, hes probably going to have to be spending mad cash... That and he might not even win  Terrable situation to be in

I gave it a through listen.. And if what ya saying is true, they definetly took ya boy's idea.. They did spice it up a little tho.. But the foundation of the track is identical.... These are the risk of the game....

They did it to Tupac too. They copied THUG LIFE and claimed they were the original, then dissed Pac.

Even tho they redid the song the theft of the concept is what you are trying to protect. the idea cuz honestly any monkey with a pc can redo any beat ever made because the blueprint is allready laid

Yep, they re-did that beat!!!

That's why you COPYRIGHT and publish!!! This happened to me once, but it was for rock music. It was a big artist and he sold millions and got a grammy for it. That opened my eyes! We didn't get anywhere because we didn't have the copyright or the money to pursue...

You do have the emails with Mp3. But, you may not stand a good chance in getting your dues. The labels have big lawyers. Big artists can get away with this because they know a person just getting started won't have the money to pursue...

But, of course do try to contact. Have your letter certifed. At least you will have record of this. And if you need to pursue it, you will have records.

damn that sucks. i think the original sounds better than the Mobb Deep version haha. well good luck getting them to pay for it.

Man, if ya sayin is true. Damn! I'm tellin you, sometimes you have to go through a tough road or event in a major way to know that this industry is NO GAME! It's kind of like your initiation into a club. You have paid your due. Now, just cover all your bases.

Every artist and producer that has made it big has a bad story to tell...
