MME & ASIO .whats the difference between these drivers?:D

ASIO is a Steinberg thing, MME is I think Microsoft but not sure. Key, being your hardware and software has to support ASIO for it to function. MME I see everywhere, gotta be MS. These are not drivers. Protocol's.

-------------

In information technology, a protocol (pronounced PROH-tuh-cahl, from the Greek protocollon, which was a leaf of paper glued to a manuscript volume, describing its contents) is the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection use when they communicate. Protocols exist at several levels in a telecommunication connection. There are hardware telephone protocols. There are protocols between each of several functional layers and the corresponding layers at the other end of a communication. Both end points must recognize and observe a protocol. Protocols are often described in an industry or international standard.

Took me awhile to copy paste that last paragraph.

so MME is not actually a driver.
My sound card has mme and ASIO .I use logic and cool edit pro.I have not tried any steinberg stuff but it does support it 'apparently'.
thanks emeric -it's been a while since we crossed posts;)
It's nothing super important I was just wondering what it all meant.ASIO 2 is an upgraded ASIO I imagine.

It is recommended to use ASIO in Logic. MME has higher latency. EASI is Logics version of an ASIO type driver, but only a few sound cards have drivers for EASI. ASIO is used more often. You'll need to set ASIO in "Audio hardware" Click on whatever is there and other choices are sometimes listed below.

I have actually had some trouble with logic full version.
I use a SE of logic (8 tracks which is enough for me)that came with my s/card and that works fine but I might make some changes and give the full version another go.

ASIO drivers

Sometimes it's a little hard to get the drivers set in emagic. In the "audio/hardware" windows, uncheck PC and go to the audio window that has a check box for ASIO. Check the box and click "try to relaunch" If it says no selection or somthing, left click and hold on "no driver" and slide down to ASIO. After you select it, ASIO drivers will start to load. There may even be a message below that says your Word clock will sync to your sound card.
I agree that Logic is tough to get going, but people who get into it say it is much better than Cakewalk or Cubase. It is nearly impossible to get any help from Logic.
Good luck,
Chuck

thanks one artist :D I have not actually heard that one before.

I just discovered somthing about starting Pulsar and Emagic. If I load a Project in Pulsar and then try to start Emagic, I get a message: "not enough memory to start ASIO drivers". If I don't load Pulsar, but just let it sit in the background in it's default "Winstart" mode, Emagic will load the ASIO drivers. I have 384MB of SDRAM, so that shouldn't be the problem. I read that these programs are so large that they need at least a 300 Watt Power Supply. I have 250, so I guess that will be my next change. It will be the quietest supply I can find. I hope this hasn't been too tedious.
