skyway57:

Interesting question. Well, my respose probably depends on on use for the mic when comparing a 4033 and a MC-012(SR).

As an "all-around" mic, I'd take a MC-012 w/standard 3 small diaphragm caps for the obvious versetility reason over a 4033.

As overheads when miking individual drums, I'd generally reach for the MC-012s w/standard 3 small diaphragm caps over the 4033s.

As overheads in a 3 or 4 mic set-up, I'd generally reach for the 4033s over the MC-012s w/any cap; including the M1.

As an acoustic guitar mic, I'd generally go for the MC-012 w/omni cap if close or cardioid if 2' or more. But if I wanted a more "pop" or even acoustoc rythm for rock I'd reach gor the 4033.

As for vox, that would depend on the sound I'm looking for. I consider the 4033 more of a "pop" sound where as I consider the MC-012 w/M1 cap as a "vintage" sound. And as you know, both are VERY popular right now.

sonusman's "little mic test" in this forum has shown how great of a combo the ART MP and 4033 is. I'd do lead vox with those results any day. Damn nice sound! Of course, you may need a comp as nice as the Crane to get them.

I'd reach for the MC-012 w/M1 for more intimate vox and background vox because it has a "big" sound. Not something I'd usually go for on lead vox to cut through a rock mix; there, presence is the key.

thanks for the thorough answer re!!

i really appreciate it...think i'm gonna go for the 4033's since i will not mic the toms individually...maybe down the road i will pick up one mc012 and the m1/m3 head....i'm getting married later this year, maybe i'll put it on the wedding registry...lol... : )

thanks again for all the help....

i priced out a whole package at 8th street (the audio manager recommended the 4033's for a great workhorse) and they are giving me some nice discounts since i'll be spending the money in one shot...i can get two 4033's for their "bulk price" which is $289 a piece....the mic question was the final piece of the puzzle...ready to roll....

thanks again...
