I use a USB Quatro for i/o at 16 bit for recording/monitoring. I notice when I mix down the quality of the (Bouincing tracks through the one and only bus A which I patch with OZONE 2) mixdown track is different from what I had originally mixed. Needless to say I'm burning all these CDRs and playing them back on all sorts of Stereos, Boxes, Walkmans etc. and it is getting expensive and I'm still lost. Any pointers? Some of what you said is a bit confusing. First of all, is Ozone patched on a Bus or on a VMain. It should be on the VMain,

Next you really should be Exporting to Wave, rather than bouncing to tracks. I don't believe when you "bounce to tracks" that the VMains are involved. Rather, you are simply combining all the tracks (at least I think that is the case).

Can you describe your steps in more detail. How are you creating the wave files to burn to CD?

I believe if you put Ozone on the VMain, and then use the Export Audio command, you will find that the resulting wave file should be identical to what you hear when you play the mix.

RE For dachay2tnr

I have tried two ways of Mix-down. Method 1... I mix down by bouncing tracks into A (called a USB source bus) on the console (mixerview) and apply Ozone in the effects box of A. After I do this I go to the folder which contains the the track which I bounced into ex. miles, track 10, mix1 , track ten being the target track of the bounce. Then I use a prog like Roxio CD CREATOR or the like of to burn onto a CDR. Method 2.....I bounce tracks into A of the console view like above but without ozone. Then I would bring up the mixdown track and (Track 10 of above) by itself into sonar and then apply ozone in A of the console view. And burn it like I did above. PS. Please note that the MAUDIUO QUATRO only works with one stereo In/out because of drivers within sonar. If you could get me in the right direction I would appreciate it (without laying out more ducats). THANKS Pete

Sorry Pete, it's still not clear to me what you're doing - in either of the two cases.

But, try this (btw, I am assuming you are using Sonar):
In Track View, make sure your Mains are showing. If they are not showing, there is a button at the bottom (next to the All/Mix/Fx/IO tabs) which will toggle the Mains on and off. Since you only have one stereo out, you will probably just have a single Main (should be labeled A).

Now click the FX tab at the bottom of Track View. You should see a box in the Main track labeled Fx. Right click on that box, and patch Ozone there from the menu's that popup. Adjust Ozone to the settings you want.

Once you are satisfied, go to the Edit menu and choose Select > All. Then go to the File menu and choose Export Audio. You'll get a popup menu. Give the file a name and destination (make sure the file type selected is Wave and the bit depth is 16) and click on Export.

You should now have a wave file of your finished mix. Play the file using Windows Media Player or Winamp and make sure you are satisfied with it. After which you can burn to CD using EZ CD Creator.

If the mix sounds OK through Windows Media Player, but subsequently does not sound good on a CD played in your car or home stereo, that is a whole different kettle of fish - most likely due to your monitoring system and/or ears.

Good luck.

Boy, I learn something every time I visit this site. So you should export the wave file rather than bounce the tracks into one when you patch in AUX or MAIN? It make sense.

Thanks, dachay2tnr.

4ever - I'm pretty sure that's the way it works with the VMains. I'm not quite as sure with an Aux Bus. However, it would be fairly easy to test - just put a real obvious effect on the Bus and see if it gets applied during bouncing.

I've always felt the safest approach was to export to a wave. Since I ultimately burn to CD, I need the wave file anyway. Bouncing a full mix to a stereo track within the same Sonar project never made much sense to me. I could see exporting to a wave, and then reimporting the wave back into Sonar if you were using Sonar to do any mastering. YMMV.

THANKS

Will GIve That A TRY AND GET BACK TO YOU! THANKS
