What is the major disadvantage to mixing with headphones? I never hear about anyone using them to mix with and I'm just curious as to why. With everyone talking about rooms and bad reflections throwing mixes off, what is wrong with seeing what it sounds like through headphones? I'm not an experienced mixer by any means, I'm just a curious guy. But I do know that headphones are my favorite way to listen to music because it seems to put you inside the sound. Can someone tell me the major advantage of mixing with thousand dollar monitors and spending a thousand more to get the room to sound right instead of using headphones? Just curious. :)

Also..., rememeber that headphones are desiged to make music sound good. :)

You will need another source for reference.

Headphones are good way to check the bass frequencies, due to the fact that you haven taken the room you are monitoring in out of the equation. I like to use them as a verifier of what I am hearing with my monitors.

Uladine, Head phones dont give you a clear indication of a mixs 3D image. I normally use a pair of headphones Im familiar with to refence levels with when mixing, But moniters give the mix a sense of depth. Besides that fact that the majority of your audience will be using speakers to moniter your mix.
