Hey can you help me ??? I'm mixing an EP that my band recorded... only we don't have decent monitors. What's the best way to go without? headphones? computer speakers??
sorry for the ghetto question. I'd love to have monitors, but no $$ now, as we had to buy a FireStudio and send it to Taiwan.

Thanks a lot

I would say your best bet is to mix it to your best ability with what you have, then check it on other systems. Then go back and re-do it until its right....or something

My suggestion is to mix using mny different systems as stated above. Moniters are meant to havea flat frequency response, which is why its ideal.

However without it, different systems have different frequency responses, so its best to mix using an vvariety of them to get a more accurate result that is more universal.

OKay thanks for that... I've just sat down with some headphones and my logitech computer speakers...
And yes, the main problem we have found is, I get it sounding good on these speakers, we go to my bass player's house, and the EQ, and all the effects sound like poo.
thanks again

There is no substitute for the monitoring chain -- And it's by far, the most important and critical link in the chain. You will only ever hear as well as your monitors allow you to hear.

And your monitors will only ever sound as good as the room they're in allows them to sound.

Two of the only actual "rule" in audio.

I'd suggest getting a decent sized pair of stereo speakers to use as your "monitors." Check a thrift store - for $20 you can probably get some speakers and a tuner with an amp built in to power them. As long as they have some sort of line-in jack, you should be good to go. Much better than little computer speakers or HP's IMO.

Whatever happened to "Get a job, wait a month, and buy some good entry-level monitors"?
