mixing vocals with piano in adobe audition

anyone have any tips for mixing vocals in with piano? i'm having a hard time blending the two together. what i have so far just sounds like 2 tracks being forced together, they aren't blending well. hit me up with some advice/tips!

With piano in a mix, I find myself often reducing everything below 1000 Hz by some decibels, and boosting everything above 1000 Hz a little bit as a starting point. I often reduce the low mids on the piano as well, and sometimes that helps the vocal stand out a bit. And when I can, I pan the piano away from the vocal, for instance when there's another instrument on the other side to balance it.
