Hey everyone,
Does anyone have a Pioneer PDR-555RW CD burner?

I'm trying to mix down from my Tascam 424mkII to a PDR-555RW, . . and I was wondering if there was anyway to program the 555RW, . to start recording a new CD, on TRACK 10, rather than Track 1 . . .?

Any help that you guys can offer, . .would be great!
Thanks in advance. . Ray

another cd burner question!

Okay, . . I have another question regarding mixing down to the Pioneer PDR-555RW cd burner from a Tascam cassette deck, or 424mkII, . .When recording from an analog source, . . where is it best to set the REC LEVELS?

Is it better to have more of a HOT recording level, . . adjusting the level so that the peak meter is hitting right before the OVER mark, . is it better to have a more softer record level. . .

I would think that a Hotter record level would be better, as long as your not spiking in the red. . . .But, . I'm not sure. . .anyone???

Thanks guys .. !

Why on earth would you want the first track to be track 10?

And no, you can't do that.

About levels;

It's best to leave about 4dB of headroom when recording and setting levels. That way, once the recording is finished, you can take it to a computer and further compress it under a software program like Cool edit or similar and get the volume up closer to like those heard on the radio which scream out at you very loudly and with no dynamics left...Though this is not a hi-fi approach, it is a sadly popular one and if you want to be heard these days, it seems like this is what's left as a choice.

On the upside, by keeping the original free of compression and clipping, you still have a recorded master that can be played with better fidelity and less distortion.

Cheers! :)

Hey FM, how are ya man, . .Thanks for the help!

Well, just so you think that I'm not totally out of my my mind, the reason I wanted to start at Track 10, is because the first disc recorded went from tracks 1-9, and I wanted the second disc to continue the track ID (from 10-15) . .The reason for that was~ I wanted each track ID to coincide with the music charts. . . and since the charts go from 1-15, I wanted to try and keep everything the same. But, I guess dat aint gonna work. . But, thanks for the info!

Another question about record levels, . . what if I wanted to make an exact duplicate copy from a cassette to a cd using the PDR-555rw . . .would I still want to leave about 4db headroom, . or would I want the record levels to be the same, or hotter than the original cassette recording? to get a quality recording.

Ideally, you want some headroom on the CD recording so that there is room later to further compress it, if desired.

If you have no plans to further play with that recording done on the CD recorder then just get it to as close to zero on the meters without ever going over and call it a day.

Cheers! :)

I have one.
Never did track move around?
It's not that versatile of a system i wouldn't think.
super user friendly...

I found for making copies to definately use the Digital input (need
another CD player with Fiber Optic).
Copies sound pretty good then.

So you could possibly move your tracks
around by buying a cheap CD-player with Fiber Optic outs...and stay in the Digital domain and "move your tracks".

just thinking never had a problem with it for ~8-10yrs?? wow... selling soon possibly.

Ray,

I don't think the 555 is able to do that by itself, though I've never tried. The only thing that comes to mind as a possible experiment is to fill up tracks 1-9 on the second disk and then record what you want to keep on 10-15 using an RW CD. Next put the disk into a computer CD writer and erase tracks 1-9.

If it works you will have a master disk 1 and 2 that you can make copies from without any further manipulation.

This may or may not work as expected so keep in mind I'm just thinking out loud here. I've never tried anything like this and I'm not sure that every playback device would respond predictably to the non-standard arraignment.

PDR-555RW, changing the Track ID

Hey guys, . .Thanks for everyone's input, and help. . .

I think everyone is correct, . that the PDR-55RW cannot start its ID track with any other ID track, except of TRACK 1 . . .However, I did try to attempt to create what 'Beck' had suggested, and create 9 very short blank tracks, then start the actual recording with track 10. but, I couldn't figure out how to erase the previous 9 tracks. . . I think that I'm trying way to hard with this, . and should probably deal with the fact that it cant be done. . .easily!

But, thanks for the great input, everyone, . at least it saved me lots of time trying to figure it out on my own, . . . Thanks guys!

. . . and thanks for the Recording Level suggestion FM!
