Total green horn here but have a good ear and am a fast learner. Just starting home recording a few months back and am obsessed with soaking up as much information as possible.

Where I'm at currently:

Digi002, top of the line mics, TG2 pre, and a La-610 pre/comp. So far I'm finding the comp on the La-610 limiting in what you can do for it and the whole unit is basically being used as a bass DI and for vocals. So I'm looking around for a more flexable compressor. Since I am ery happy with the Chandler TG2 I looked on their web site for other products they sell and came across their mixing modules. They sell mini modules with a 8X TG pre/eq/ and limiters but then they also have a mixing module where they say quote: " when combined with the Mini Mixer creates a fully rack mountable and portable TG mixing system designed specially for use with todays studio setups."

This is the part I don't understand. With the mini modules I would have a complete tracking system with pres/eq's/ and comp-limiters. What do I need the mixing module for?

My assumption is that it is used to mix out of the pro tools enviroment. If that's the case, what are the advantages to this. And more importantly - how does this work exactly IE the recording process.

Here's the links to the products so you know what I'm talking about. I knwo this will sound like a dumb question but hey - I gotto start somewhere :)

PS this is a private use studio I'm building up.

This is the mini module:

And this is the mini mixer that I'm wondering about:

i have a friend who got a ProTools mixer to mix ITB. He switched back to his regular 32 channel Mixing board and mixes OTB now.

I'd advice getting some plugs and really learning the sounds of the effects before you invest in an assload of gear that you will probably not want in 6 months.

Id rather use a plug in comp then try and buy a good hardware comp as a noob.

that being said...I'd get an LA2A ;)

YEah, but I'm kind of interested how the outboard mixing works with PT for eduational sake.
