mixing rock drums created in fl studio (fruity loops)

hello there! well guys due to the lack of equipment i have to record nice sounding real drums, i resort to fl studio to recreate them there.

nooow...

a friend of mine makes his sound incredibly realistic with a program called nuendo. i know its not exactly the program, but the plugins he uses. i have all of his plugins however i dont know which one he uses. i do saw once he used waves diamond and the eq baahhh i cant remember. well basically he has refused teaching me ... ive been trying for days now, but not luck. they sound fl-ish if u know what i mean. if someone could help me out step by step or part by part of the drums and what effect to use on each it would mean the world to me.

from what volume to set on the kick, snare and such and what effects to use on each... to make a fl studio made rock drum, sound as realistic as possible. thanks and cheers!

I'd say the single best way to make FL drums sound close to being realistic is to go in to the piano roll window and edit each hit to have a slightly different velocity every so often, for example never have 3 snare hits in a row at the same velocity.

It just makes it a touch more natural.

This works well for hats.

Something else you can do (don't know if fl has it) is let your program "swing" a little. This means that it will actually allow for slight shifts in when the note hits so that your loops sound a little more natural. As for the plugins, the diamond bundle is huge and stepping through all of them would probably take some time. The most common effects are probably going to be the eq and the compression. A little reverb always helps too. If the drums have a very unique sound, it might well be that he is using something of the beaten path.

So you want US to tell you what you're buddy is doing, step by step, to drum samples we haven't even heard (and have no access to), in order to make them more realistic ... with no other information other than the brand name of the effects he's using? ?

Good luck there.

:D

be nice

have you listened to the drum sound with everything else in the mix? they might sound fine with everything else over them.

here are some things i used to do with my fl drums tracks. hopefully some of these will help.
1. add a little bit of swing (fl has it) and change the velocity on some of the hits. i believe there is a tool called "humanize" that will randomize the velocity with parameters that allow it to seem more natural yet not sloppy.
2. there is actually a drum template called 'realistic'. it might be worth a try.
3. adding a little bit of reverb, compression, and/or eq can definitely make a difference, it doesn't have to be much either.
4. i had great results dumping my drums to cassette tape then recording them back into my mulit-track.

no need to get on your high horse daisy. if you don't have any answers why post?
