Hi Guys,

I desparately need some helps here, I'd done recording for some amateur band, musically is not good, sound/tone wise is not good, and this is something that beyond my control, but I really want the mixing part to be as good as possible....

I'd uploaded the file in this server...can someone help pls?

i would retrack the guitars...unless you added the reverb...it's too much.

if there's no possibility of retracking or taking the reverb down, you'll need to eq them to give them a bit more meat, but it will only do so much. i made a cut at about 2k and a slight boost at 4k...and then you'll have to do the bottom end yourself to make them not muddy up when the bass is added.

the lead vocal could also use a slight cut in the 2-3k range...and possibly give it some mids. and maybe raise a high-high shelf. i'm talking 16-20k.

do you automate the volume of the guitars when the vocals come in? you don't have to. dynamics are your friend. it's either a volume change or a pan change.

the drums seem pretty good. maybe the snare is a little loud, but it sounds okay for what it is.

did you use overheads? right before 1:00 it seems like the drums drop and the toms are empty. it's okay if you're limited by your equipment, but for the future they would really help round out the drums, give them space, and the toms would come out.

it's not as bad as you think though. i don't listen to this much anymore...but musically it's not bad like you say...

thanks for the advice..

apparently, i'd sliced EACH BEAT of the drums and bass to get it in sync!!!!

I mixed the drums with some "midis" just to make it sounds a bit better....you wouldn't believe what the original sounded...

i think the overheads/cymbals sounds quite aweful..but I 'm not sure what i could about it...

should i do the side chain thingy for the vocal and the guitar parts?

Although I don't like the style I don't think the band is that bad. The guitar tone is pretty crappy and buried. I think you should be able to get this sounding pretty decent. I'd probably retrack the guitars though. Bass needs more definition too I think.

you might be able to tweak the eq on the guitars to get them to sound a little better. i would copy the guitar tracks and mess with different eq settings and maybe turn the guitars into 4 tracks and fatten up the tone some. just an idea, don't know how well it would work but the guitars are definitely lacking on the high end.

i tried to boostthe high end....but it ended up it lost the bass end...

how to compesate btw these two?

double the tracks, keep the lows intact on one, and pump the highs on the new additional track. try that out :D

Return to the original bass track - flat EQ , compress it but not too harshly with a couple of dB of gain, then a 3db or so BOOST at 3khz with a not too wide Q and roll off the very, very top end if the compression & gain have added noise.
Don't scoop the mids unless they are competing with something else for the space.

hi guys,

Thanks a lot for the advice.

I did a bit changes and now it sounds like this .....

http://www.sendspace.com/file/j7w487

but there is this little cliches/noise in the guitars....i tried to eliminate it by eq and compressor....but it will affect the overall sound of the guitar...

any idea how to retain the guitar sounds and get rid of the noise?
