please great music nerds of wisdom help me out.
I am running:
Reason 4.0
OS X 10.5.8
macbook pro 1.83 duo
I recently got a motu 828mk3.
Goal: Run the output of reason main L/R to a pair of analog inputs on motu.
Basically I use reason as a synth and drum machine then mix it with live instruments. Currently what is happening when I hook it all up is that reason plays through analog outputs 1/2 on motu. But this doesn't allow me to use the motu to mix because reason completely skips the motu and goes to the outputs. when looking at channels 1/2 onthe motu it's showing no levels at all and the fader for the channel does nothing because it completely bypasses the motu and just feeds the signal straight to the output.
I want the audio output from reason to go to some inputs on the motu so that the signal runs through the motu mixer so that I can view levels and mix reason as a track along with the tracks for live instruments. The way things are now with it going directly to the outputs the faders, processors, and mixer don't effect the signal coming from reason and I can not view the levels or mix it with my other tracks. It's a straight signal from reason to the outputs.
to help visualize this (as I'm not too sure how clear i'm being because I haven't had my coffee yet) imagine reason as an instrument plugged into two inputs on your physical mixer so that you can mix it's levels along with the other instruments on their way from the mixer to the recorder. currently it's acting as if all the other instruments are going to the mixer then to the recorder but reason is just plugged straight into the recorder instead of the mixer.
I used to use a chepo lexicon lambda and had no problem with this because there was very easy routing where I could simply assign the inputs for 2 channels to listen to the outputs from reason. I figured there is no way the much more expensive motu couldn't do this as well so it's probably just me not knowing how the heck to do it after 3 days of trying.
