okay, you've mixed on powered monitors, you've mixed on auratones, you've mixed on boomboxes, headphones & crappy little computer speakers...

anyone ever mixed on a TV? we hear music all the time through TV speakers & it's always put together professionally so we hear everything clear even through one little shitty speaker on a TV. is this a totally dumb idea? has anyone tried it? did it work?

at least it'd be a good way to check for mono compatability.

Never thought to try it my man. If you do let me know how it turns out:)

It's really funny that you asked that, because I was talking to a local producer/mixer who was saying that when he does something for TV, he uses some little speaker that he feels simulates TV speakers well. He also said that when mixing for TV he makes sure the mixes work in mono as well.

He also said he's seen studios where they actually have a car up on blocks and a little small watt FM transmitter that they use to check how the mix will translate to radio. I'm not sure if he was exaggerating here, or if he actually saw this. Pretty interesting though. I read somewhere that for John Mayer's latest album, they checked all the mixes on laptop speakers because so many people are listening to cds on Ipods, laptops, and other small speaker devices.

Audio for TV gets processed to an extreme degree. They don't just throw a CD into a player and broadcast it.

Good thinking, though. :)

It's not uncommon for a producer to finalize a TV commerical by listening to the final mix through a TV set.

I usually burn a cd of my mixes and put in the dvd player to run it through the TV to check. Just one of the many systems to check on
