I have some basic knowledge about monitors, but I am a complete newb when it comes to choosing them. I need some decent cheap ones for home mixing projects.Help?

Whats your idea of cheap?

I think you want to budget at least $300 - $400. I've got the KRK Rokit 5's. They seam to have a fairly good reputation.

hmmmmm. Anything below that. I'm new to this, and just need something basic

Well, I would be doubtful of most monitors under $300...I'd save more money if I were you. I'm sure some other members can recommend SOMETHING though.

Good luck!

Definitely recommend saving enough to buy decent monitors. I also have the Rockit RP5 series and I'm very glad I saved up for them. You will be amazed at the difference you will hear in your mixes if you buy a good pair of monitors. You mix can only sound as good as your weakest component. Don't go cheap on the monitors.

Behringer MS20 or MS40, learn them and they will do the job for you. The money you save you can put towards some decent headphones.

Ignore what they say about tweeter alignment in the MS range, I challenge anyone to band split and solo the high frequencies then come say it makes a difference in stereo imaging.

id buy a pair of decent headphones and save up....

CFox is right to an extent...the misaligned tweeters wont make much difference but really you'd be better keeping the $120 those cost and putting it towards a better pair..just my humble opinion

follow your heart lol :)

btw ive seen first gen rokkit 5s go for $150 in fleabay...thats only a few bucks more for a definite step up

Wow. Exactly what I needed thank you!

Er - those *are* the basic ones.

I would not go for anything less - for the price the KRK units are very nice.

Much less and it's not really trustworthy as a monitor.

Personally I prefer monitors to be in the £1,000 / $1,500 plus region and don't like going below that figure.
