Mixing Monitors (Passive) and ipod Q

Sorry if these questions are really stupid..

First, my ipod. Comparing the Audio out from my ipod vs my macbook pro, my iPod sounds better. To be more specific, the audio from the iPod sounds more separated (the panning seems more distinct). I tested this out with my AKG 142HD headphones and Alesis M1MK2's.

2nd, Panning my Alesis Monitors back and forth they sound different... one seems a little more bass strong, if that makes sense. It's ever so slight and only noticeable when you pan back and forth (not noticeable when centered).

Tests: I've tested by switching audio cables, switching the left and right outputs (which made the sound quality flip, ruling out a speaker issue I think), swapping the speaker locations, and stacking the speakers so they are in the same location.

Is it possible that the amp's separate channels our outputting different quality?
