I have a Digi 001 and just bought a tascam m3500 analog board...
the Digi 001 has 8 analog outputs, what is the best way for me to get 8 more outputs to my console when i'm ready to mix? The Digi 001 has lightpipe out, but do i need to through an Adat then to my console? or other D/a converter?

any help would be greatly appreciated

yah, DA converter

the digital out of the digi would go to the digital in of the outboard DA converter...

the basic idea is something along the line of a Behringer ADA8000, an alesis AI3, or higher up, a lynx, creamware or an apogee DA16X

any of the above will work fine, it's just a question of how much you want to spend. I think the alesis will have basically the same converters as the 001 itself, the behringer, not quite as good and anything else will be better.

happy shopping

follow up

Thanx for the quick reply, this is my first question in this forum, this is an awesome resource!

One more question...You say the converters in, for the example, the behringer, are the roughly the same as the digi 001....If i were to buy the apogee ad16, for example, with 16 channels of conversion, could i use the apogee for all 16, even the eight analog outs from the digi 001? how do you not use the digi's converters for those 8 analog channels?

might sound stupid, just trying to get to the bottom of this...
thanx again

my bad

i love the 001 by the way, great unit...

sorry i should have remembered that the apogee was a 16-channel... it's in the name after all

so, no, the digi only has 1 8 channel optical out, plus 2 channels of s/pdif

i might be wrong again, but if you wanted an apogee converter, they make an 8-channel... a rosetta i think? the rosetta 800? maybe take a look at that?

cheers

oh and

you can't not use the digi's analog outs.

but i really wouldn't worry about it, in reality they're not going to sound bad and they shouldn't degrade your signal.
