Stop mixing so things clip!!!!!!!
people need to realize this because im sick of it haha. and once i realized it a while back... it was a HUGE stepping stone.
keep your levels low on individual tracks and boost your monitors a bit if you need the volume.
this makes the quality of your sound soooooooo much better... and allows you a LOT more headroom for adding guitar/vocal/keyboard parts.
if your mixing drums bass and rhythm... get them at the mix you want... then select all the tracks and drop them down a decent amount.... and your master output? dont max that out!! just turn up your monitors.
this will make it quite a bit more accurate when your mixing to... because if your blasting your instruments... and you say "i love my mix but i wish this guitar was a bit louder" .... and then you realize that its already pegged... then your limiting yourself.
bah... rant over.
reflect?
edit - (rant not over).. dont worry about output volume during mixing PLEASE!!!! just make sure your around -4 to -6 DB and then go on to mastering....
MASTERING is for volume... ya dumbies.
