mixing down a 4-track recording?

i get the feeling this question is asked a lot, but i couldn't find any threads about it, so here goes.

when mixing down a 4-track recording, tracks 1 and 2 play fine, but tracks 3 and 4 play backwards. how can i fix that?

That sounds to me like it was not recorded on a 4-track but rather a 2-track on side A, then flipped and recorded on side B.

Are you playing the tape on a regular cassette deck?
