OK, here is my first attempt at mixing for my band's debut CD. The CD is all of our old stuff over the past 15 years that we want to put down for posterity sake.

The track is called Voices and can be downloaded HERE . The file is a 160Kpbs MP3 at approximately 6.8 MB.

Be gentle, it's my first time ;), but I would appreciate any constructive criticism on the track.

One thing, I can't seem to get right is getting the vocals to sit properly in the mix instead of on top of. So let me know some thoughts on how I may be able to fix that.

Thanks in advance!

Awsome tune! Singing is really good, sounds like Ozzy in a way. Mixing isn't bad, but I shouldn't be the one to comment on that. If I was gonna do something, I would add some reverb to the snare and eq in some hi mids and his to it. The bass drum is lacking in all the hi end so its just a kinda low middy muddy boom, which isn't too easy on the ears but it could be what you like. It kinda sounds like the bass drum is just the strait track with nothing done to it... thats ok if its what you want.

I don't know much about guitar, but they sound kinda scooped, or at least not popping out in the mix at all. It makes it sound hollow. EQ in some mids maybe. I can't talk about the bass seeing I know nothing about it. The vocals aren't too outfront. Maybe add some reverb (just a tad) to help it settle with in the mix. Maybe take the track down a little from there...? What ever you want to do.

Over all it's a nice tune and a pretty good mix. You can take my advice but keep in mind I'm young and fairly new to this aswell, so don't study what I say, or hold me to anything I say for that!

Have fun, Keep mixing, AND DO IT YOUR WAY!

Ben
