Mixing Board question

Hey all.

I am using Logic to record, and was wondering if anyone else was doing the same thing. Also, I was wondering if anyone uses Logic Express and what they think of it?

My main question is, what mixing board are people using with Logic? Or are you just mixing in the program?

If my view is of any interest, I prefer to use a 'real' mixer when recording, simply because it's the most versatile.

You can record via the stereo output, insert points, direct outs or subgroups. The mixer also has microphone preamps (and even phono preamps if you're using a disco mixer).

My little Soundcraft M8 is a nice little mixer. It's very open and clear and rather versatile, even though it's not a proper recording mixer per-se (though I dislike the fact that the line ins on the first 8 channels run through the mike preamps at a reduced volume for economy reasons).

I like using 'proper' mixers. They cut down demands on the processor (as do using 'real' effects units on the insert points). Also the sound quality can be purer too, leastways with cheaper software, because the software merely records what's coming in without adjusting it.

I've used Logic (can't remember which version) and didn't get on too well with it. I prefer using Samplitude for recording because it's dead simple and Cubase for mixing because it's more sophisticated and higher quality.

"the line ins on the first 8 channels run through the mike preamps at a reduced volume" shouldread "....reduced gain".
