Mixing audio to mic input of a video camera

Hello, this is my first question of many I'm sure. I've been asked to do some recording at a local open mic night. I wanted to use a video camera with an external mic input(Canon HF R200) and my MR16 with mic's or direct input. Does that seem feasible? Any advise on the correct hook up for a decent sound? Thanks in advance. D.Geezer

You can do it but the digital converters in (any) consumer cameras aren't that good. And they use rather nasty limiters and automatic gain functions to deal with outside noises that do rude things to audio. Fine for vacation shots but not for quality music.

Better to use a separate audio recorder and then merge the video with the audio in the computer (like the pro movie studio do)
