Hi,

I'm wondering how to record and mix an a capella band (mostly I sing all the tracks myself so I'm recording them all on a different track).

1. Should I record every voice on a different track ( aren't the flying pickets working this way?)

2. Should I record everything on one track for instance with two omni cardioid condenser mics (stereo) in an isolated room (aren't the king singers working this way?)

Ok, what if I made one of these two options. Now I have to mix the whole.

If I used the first method ( everything of diff tracks): what plug-ins are common used? Should I threat the tracks all separately or do I have to work with master plug-ins and handdle everything all toghether? Or should I combine these two (for examle insert in every track a compressor but only using one reverb in the master section?)

When I record everything on one track (the second method) I can't handdle them separately. Does it make a difference on the plug-ins I'm going to use? Does it also differ when I insert the plug-ins in the track itself or in the master track?

Does there exist some literature about?

Thanks a lot

If you're singing all the tracks yourself, you'll probably have a difficult time singing all the parts at the same time. Most people (99.9%) can only sing one note at a time. Unless you have a group of people who are used to singing together, do it on different tracks.

What is it that you want these plug-ins to do. Without having the sound recorded, how do you know you need plug-ins? Let the dog wag the tail, not the other way around.

Just do it and see what problems you run into. Sounds like fun. I'd love to have a project like that to work with.

Thanks for the info. The articles are exactly for what I was looking for.

Thanks a lot
