Hey Folks! I went to a craft fair yesterday and there was this guy selling his hand made flutes. They looked much like the flutes crafted by the Native Americans and sounded beautiful. Then i noticed he had several cds to sell; he and his wife had them set up so each cd could be listened to right there before purchasing. So I gave them a listen. It was fantastic. He plays the flute in all his songs but blends it with other instruments (piano, gutiar, bass, etc....all of which he plays himself). But what really fascinated me was the way he blended natural sounds into his music. On the intro of one song he had recorded a waterfall (from some region on this planet earth, i can't remember where, they travel a lot). Then the music just blended into the waterfall and created such a soothing and pretty melody. He had another song where he was accompanied by their pet wolf. He would play the flute and the wolf would sing in harmony to it. Then he would play the track back and the wolf would sing once again in harmony to that. It sounded like a ghostly pack of wolves singing in harmony with the flute.
To say the least, he was very talanted. He said he uses a Tascam four track, an Alesis ADAT, and a Mackie mixer. I think he has someone else do the final mixing and none of it is software generated, they said they hadn't gotten into the computer end of things yet. I think he said Oasis does the final mixing and mastering. I wanted to ask him more like how do you mic a waterfall like that, it was so clear and crisp that i felt i could see it. But i could see my husband wasn't going to let me buy one of the cds so i didn't want to seem like a pest.
Anyway, i just thought i would share that. I wish i could remember his name. I think it was either Gary or Greg White. I asked if he had a website and he said he didn't but his music could be bought online through Orchard or something. Apparantly they do almost all of their marketing by going to these fairs.
My husband finally had to drag me away or else i'd have been sure to buy one of those flutes and a cd to boot.
