This is my first time posting at this forum, I've been a lurker for a while but now I'm kinda stuck.
I've got a small practice space that's got a pretty good sound for what we do (dirty dirty rock and roll)
We're five piece, lead+backup vocal,bass, guitar, drums.
We're going to record an album at the space. My band mates, being marginally lazy and justifiably paranoid about "the vibe" basically want to record live to track, with vocals(me) done later. At the space, we've currently got a Digimax FS and a Firestudio. All of the mics and effects and digital drums and whatever and what have you go into either the FS or the Digimax.
We monitor vocals through a yamaha mixer hooked to the direct outs on the Digimax.
At home I've got an Alesis io26 (working fine-no driver problems) for my home setup. I've got a rack with a bunch of effects and a mixer and a patchbay and blah. This is for my solo noise stuff.
At home I mix through cheapy krk rokit 5's.
As you can tell this is a super cheap operation, but decent for low cost gear.
I'm tempted to bring the IO26 to the practice space and bring the firestudio home. I've got a few reasons for this. My first reason is that the firestudio is rack mountable and it would look neat in my rack at home-take up less space than the io26. The next reason is that I mix at home and I had the idea that perhaps the Firestudio would have better outs or even a better D/A.
My question is, aesthetics aside, do I have any reason to mix with the firestudio rather than the IO26?
