hello. I just mixed this file down and it has a few kinks in it and sorry about the occasional offbeat drums, I'm more of a guitar player. Let me know what you think about the overall mix. The guitars seem a bit trebley to me, they are the only thing that really bother me. Let me know what you think about the drums and the bass in the mix. There are a few slow parts but I didn't bust my chops on sprucing them up, this is a rough mix. My new mic pre's are in the mail so this is a pre-mic-pre mix. The only thing running through a pre is the 57 (1/2 of the guitars and the snare are running thru an old ART tube pre) can anyone tell?

Sonar Home STudio 4
Aardvark Q10
Lexicon MPX-500
Kurzweil K2500
Mesa 50 combo, valve distortion only
Yamaha Kit
Some junk bass
sm57, AKG D112, 2 MC-019's on drums

I also miked the guitar amp with a 57 on one side and the D112 on the other. It sounds ok I guess,. Anybody ever had success with this.

the low end is not really there.

the guitars are small because they lack any low end.

pretty decent otherwise

A couple of the elctric guitars were meant to be trebley , like the beginning but when everything kicks inthe ( chorused/distorted) guitar stills seems high punchy. The bass and mids were at reasonable levels when I recorded electric guitar. I guess I always assumed it wouldn't need re-equalized if the source was equalized. What can I do to beef the guitar's low end up? Will the mic pre's help, software equalization?

I dropped your track onto ableton Live and checked out it's spectrum. Looks pretty good actually except for there is absolutely no sound above 18k or so. Your equipment must be cutting out all of the very high frequencies. I can hear this as kind've a loss of "space" in the recording.

I ran a quick plug in on Ableton called saturator. This acts as both a limiter and a distortion plug. It worked wonders. I would try just using some compression to bring up the levels and toughen everything up a bit.

Of course, then again, what the hell do I know.

I know I'm jacking the thread (sorry) but I have never used Ableton Live (even though Abelton Live Lite 4 came with two of the things I bought... Can ya tell me more about what you're doing to see this? Is it an aftermarket plugin?

Yeah I actually used Izotope's Ozone plug to see the spectrum. I think ozone is sweet but there are free spectrometer's (I think that's what they're called) out there. Do a search on the board and you should find a link to a company that offers a free one. I have one on my laptop so I'll post the name when I can get to it.

As an aside Ableton Live is freakin' awesome. I love this software man.

Sweet... Thanks!

Definitely lacks high end clarity, no sparkle or depth.
Also needs some richness in the lows (100-300 Hz).
Some slight compression/limiting on the snare with some reverb and EQ action should make it snappy and big.
