I was wondering if anyone has any general tips for dealing with mixing in a non-treated environment? I realise that it's hard to be definitive when dealing with an unknown environment - but do you know of any general rules of thumb; ie: basic principles, which I could bend to my purposes in an attempt to compensate for the lack of physical room treatment?

Mix quietly and listen on multiple playback sources in different rooms regularly. Get a car stereo with a USB input to save CD burning time. Cross reference with material you know well in your untreated room for comparison. Then, when you get tired of all this back and forth pain in the ass, build some damn absorption panels!!! I finally did a while back. Best investment in my recordings/mixes by far.

LOL! Thanks, Jimmy. Common sense there. Yeah, I do believe you're right. One day I'll move into the attic and 'treat it right'. And thanks for the great tips I can use in the meantime...

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing how you made your absorbtion panels. Do you have pictures and a rough guide to hand?
