I will maybe buy a mixer to add inserts to my firepod. The mixer needs to have direct outs on each channels (at least 8) do you have any suggestion of mixer ?? (any prices, i will check this after)

My Alesis studio 24.

I don't use the Pre's in it but it's great for routing/monitoring. :)

I would look at Soundcraft or Allen & Heath. Those are two companies that seem to understand that not everyone wants to use Inserts for outs.

The Mackie Onyx series of mixers all have direct outs on each channel, and darn clean and nice preamps. The one thing to be aware of (can be a plus to some, minus to others) is that the direct outs come RIGHT after the preamps, no EQ or inserts beforehand.

Behringer UB2442Fx Pro has post fader and eq for about $300. Can't beat the price and it's a pretty good sounding board.

Yep, I have an M12 and let me tell you that the coolest feature ever is the 'Direct Pre' switch. You can switch the direct out to either pre or post fade send, which means you can shorten the signal path and use the faders for a monitor mix, or you can have the direct outs follow the faders and so take an exact copy of the mix you are creating with the faders!

Very cool ... not seen it on other desks.

Wow, that's a lot of posts without the "all mixers have direct outs" comment!

You can use the inserts as a direct out. Just plug the cable in to the first "click". Blammo, direct out.

Hill Audio. Great sound, highly underrated. $100-200.00 on Ebay.

I have a Behringer 2442fx-pro...... 2nd one actually.....the first kept cutting out in the direct outs so the store just gave me another one.....sent it back to behringer and everything...

but the 2nd one cuts out in the left channel of the mains.... i'll probably never buy another one...

I'll probably keep it around but I wouldn't suggest anyone buy one....spend a little more and get a yamaha...

i'm highly interested in buying an M8 just to add to my actual mixer,
but i wonder, aren't there any other little mixing desks that equal the M-serie ? don't mention behringer, been there done that, i'm mostly interested in clean preamps, eq comes after that,
i know allen & heath is a nice company, but what series would you suggest?

Most of the problems with the UB range of mixers (and a few other pieces of Berry equipment) are due to the poxy, nasty, cheapshit, IDC connectors that they use to connect between PCB's.

if you get one that has decent connections than they give no problems but if you get one with bad connections then ??????

The problem is so bad with the Digital Xover (Ultradrive) that if I install them in new systems I take off the cover and remake all the connections a few times to clean the contacts because if I don't I know it will fail within a few months.
Once the contacts have been cleaned in this way they do not seem to give further problems.

Hiya Tony! Nice to see you here. I did reply to your email you sent me previously, but it kept bouncing back and I couldn't work out how to get around it! :)

Hi ya Noisy, I had a bad day when I sent you the PM I had just done a solid week of FOH with a different band each night and the "Ego's" had got to me.

One of the bands singers even took down an E865 and threw it on the floor and refused to perform unless I put up an SM58. Well I did'nt and he did but the resulting row left me a bit pissed off.

I seem to spend the majority of my time at the moment explaining to vocalist's why the stage monitor level has a bearing on the FOH level and why I think it is more important thet the audience can hear the resulting sound than the Band -----Fukin wankers.

Tony

Well - yes. I am with you 100% on each point. It's tough dealing with egos. I've had that experience with an E845 ... the moron couldn't sing and wouldn't even listen to the Sennheiser ... but they're now condensers, and if someone had thrown down an E865 in front of me I'd inform them that there would be no mic for them that evening.

You better hope your promoter or venue owner backs you up in a situation like that. Do you still own, or have you not replaced your old joint yet?

We had to sell our last club because of problems with the Noise abatement mob.
Some new houses had been built in the last 2 years close by even though we had been running the Live Rock Club for the last 10 years?

Most of the bands I work with have known me for quite a while and generally trust me, but the rows I had were with some bands I had not worked with before or ever will again.

I have noticed that I never seem to have problems with bands with real talent only those with no talent but large ego's.

Tony

Yeah definitely - one of my favourite bands around here (Beautiful Feet) usually use AT AE3300s on their voices. I swore blind (not knowing the AE3300 at the time) that my Sennheisers were better. Well, on their female singer, they were. On the male lead, they weren't. But they said, "we trust you to make a judgement", and I ended up being closer to agreeing with them.

Humility on all sides goes a long way ... but it is surprisingly scarce amongst young bands!!
