which one do you guys prefer for better mic pres, EQ, lower noise, and just overall better sound in the studio?

For pres,Mackie....for eq and lower noise, kind of a crapshoot.....how many channels do you need, how many busses, and how much u wanna spend?...

It all really depends on the soundcard I get, the money I have at the time I decide to get it, and whether or not I can get some recording gigs going (there's not to many bands around here to record). I probably won't be getting it for a while but I'm just looking into options right now and trying to get an idea of what I want to do when I finally do get the money. Right now I'm looking at an 8 input - 8 output soundcard but I'd like to have at least 10 or 12 channels for submixing or for live shows. I'll just run out the channel inserts so I really don't need to many busses unless I use it for live shows.
What are some of the advantages and dissadvatages of each, and which one do you think would be the best overall buy?
