Mixer to DAW Patch Cables to buy?

Hey All,

I'm in desperate need of some good patch cables for my mixer to my daw--I would be using the inserts of the mixer for this, so I'll need 1/4" male to RCA male.

I've heard something in the past about either needing the 1/4" end to be stereo or plugged in halfway. I've tried both scenarios with adapted mono and stereo RCA to 1/8" (to 1/4") cables and the results have been fine, other than that of the mixer's minimal hiss.

I've heard some bad things about Hosa cables, but I've also heard good things. I happen to know they make snakes for this specific need.

Any advice? I need a quick and easy solution, without spending a fortune.

Well, not completely...

I was actually wanting to get something like this.

That isn't an insert cable.

An insert cable will allow the signal to exit the mixer, go through an outboard effect, then re-enter the same mixer channel that it came out of. The cable looks like a regular 'Y' cable but functions differently.

I'm not using it as an insert though. I'm just using it as a method to patch audio from one place to another...

Well than maybe you can rephrase the original post that says you will be using the inserts of the mixer.

Maybe I'm missing something??

Are you returning to the same mixer channels that brought the signal to the DAW?

No. I'm simply using the mixer insert jacks as outputs so I don't need to deal with the mixer's bus configurations and so on. The inserts also provide less noise than the other outputs.

I will probably also pick up some separate preamps at some point. In any case, I was simply a bit concerned on the Hosa brand.

I've got one of those old Hosa snakes around here. used it with my Darla20.

They're okay. Mine had a couple channels go dodgy after a year or two.

I hate those sealed plastic connectors. Gimme Neutric or Switchcraft.

That said, I was cleaning stuff up around here yesterday and couldn't throw that damned snake out. Figured I'll make it into a 1/4 > 1/4 unbalanced snake someday.
