While in search of the perfect board for my recording needs (Yet knowing very little about mixer features) I'm trying to envision common routing possibilities which I'll encounter and would be grateful if someone could answer (explain) a few questions.

Questions:
To mix several mics (Example: Drums) to one mixer channel in order to utilize that channels direct out > into one of my tape machines in's...

1. Which features in a mixer would I be looking for?

2. Is this 'Sub-Grouping'??

3. Any links that map out mixer routing scenarios?

Thanks

Well pretty low ($350)
I'm trying to gain experience on the subect while looking around locally (Used likely) for a board to use with my Tascam 38.

Understanding some of a mixers features and the routing is just making me crazy!

I understand effects sends/returns, but sub grouping and things like that I just can't seem to crack without seeing a diagram or actually experimenting with a mixer.

(I understand that some boards ( Like the M30 M308 and m312) work well with the 38 in terms of simply fliping a switch to monitor the tape machines outs, which is another whole routing issue I need to iron out.)

Is there a "Mixers for Dummys" book availble??

Thanks

i'm guessing that the tascam38 is an 8 track analog tape? or are you talking about the DA38? either way 8 tracks.

so a used mixer with 8 inserts would do the trick since the inserts are ring-tip-sleeve... like a mackie 1402 for instance. check ebay.

oh, not to insult your intelligence but i'm going to assume that you don't that you can connect each channel insert to both the input and output of each track of your tascam 38.

PLEASE ( Insult me by all means!)

I can do what? (Please run that by me again 'cus I think I caught a glimpse of almost understanding something!!)

Opps. Sorry, I have a 38 analog 8 track.

Many Thanks
