Mixer Question

I'll make this short and sweet. I have a Yamaha MG 16/4 Mixer. I usually record with it, but it pushes all my channels down to one track on my PC.

If I sold my Yamaha Mixer, and got either of these Phonic mixers, would I be able to have say kick drum, snare mic, tom1, tom2, tom3 ect ect. plugged into my mixer, and then they each go to seperate tracks on my PC? Or would I have to buy an audio interface (like the Firebox) like I would with my Yamaha MG 16/4.

By the way, I'm on a budget and $700 is really pushing it.

Option 1 (8 mic inserts) $450

Option 2 (16 mic inserts $720)

Lastly, I'd like to go with Option 2 IF each channel would go on a seperate track in my recording program.

What soundcard are you using now? Your current mixer has inserts that you can use to send seperate signals. You most likely need a multi-input soundcard to keep the instruments apart. And from what I've heard that's a good mixer.

Yeah I really like the mixer. I just wish I could find a more inexpensive way to send the channels to my labtop.

Right now I'm using the soundcard that came with my labtop. My labtop is a Compaq Presario 2100.

Take a look you can get up to 18 ins and 14 outs. and the channels will be seperate in your software. that way you can keep your yamaha mixer!

Its the very first one firewire 1814 and its less that $700.00

Alright. It dosen't look like it has near enough plugs on there.

How would I go about plugging in say, 8 mic channels that I have going through my mixer. If I wanted them to go to a seperate track EACH on my labtop.

Direct outs from your mixer to the ins on the firewire 1814, (example channel 1-8), and the outs from the firewire1814 to the ins of seperate channels, that all depends on if you are going to mix in the box or mix with the board, if in the box is used then you only need a stereo pair to return to the board, oh and plug it into your firewire port.

The inserts are what you have to use, just the insert cable in one click, your mixer only has 8, you can add a ADAT litepipe interface like the berry ada8000 (I think thats the model).

The firewire 1814 has a ADAT hookup that will give you a total of 16 ins plus 2 ins for S/PDIF

You've got inserts on channels 1-8. You also have a group out which I'm guessing could be used for two more channels, making a total of 10 individual outs. With an insert and a 1/4" cable, you'll want to put in the cable to the first click, not all the way in.

I'm sorry to post this stupid question, but I still don't know WHERE to plug each cable in on the mixer. This sounds really noobish, but I am a noob. Could you circle in PAINT where I plug my cord into on the mixer? And so would I need 8 1/4 cables if I were going to do 8 channes.

YTou would plug it into the one labled 'insert' and like they said, you only push it in half way (just to the first click)

By the way, you have a LAPtop, not a labtop. It sits on your lap.

M-audio makes decent stuff for a cheap price. If you find anything cheaper, you don't want it.

That has to be configured in the software that you are using, by the way what software are you using?
