ok i'm looking to get a mixer with at least 16 channels for a recording studio. I've looked at a soundcraft ghost. what i would like to do is run my mikes into the mixer than out to an hd 24 than transfere the files to my computer to do the editing in pro-tool or cubase. i don't wann have to mix down to 2 stere tracks when going into the hd which would make it impossible to edit individual tracks in p-tools or cubase. so my question is does a 16 channel mixer come with 16 lines out if not how do get what i'm looking for? sort of a newbie when it comes to having more than 4 tracks. any suggestions would be great. thanks

Any mixer with direct outs will work, provided it has 16 channels with direct outputs on each. Most anything from Behringer (lowend) on up will accomodate this.

Mind if I ask why into the HD24 and then to Cubase?

I don't know about the HD24 but other stand alone hard disc recorders have other, more direct, ways of transfering tracks to a computer. Some use an ethernet connection. Mind you, if you just get a lightpipe interface, you can go right from the HD24 to the computer digitally.
